Wellness is an active process, and a series of cognitive decisions and habits that a person chooses to do continuously, to help work towards to achieving a healthier and more fulfilling life. Wellness comes in many more forms, other than just being free from illness, it is not a separate entity – overall wellness is an aggregate of our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.

Becoming well is a dynamic process of change and growth, it is fluid, and ongoing, something we must work on for our entire life. There is not a secret short cut, or quick tip to becoming well – but thankfully, health experts and nutritionists have dedicated their entire lives to researching and identifying processes and products to help give us an edge in achieving our health and wellness goals.

One of those products that helps promote mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health, is the implementation of CBD oil into your daily wellness routine to help rest, relax, and recover so you can be at your best, day-in-and-day-out. We hope this entry will provide insights and ideas on how CBD can be integrated into your wellness journey.

Lemon Water

Diet and drinking water are integral components of physical wellbeing. Traditionally, diets can be a drastic change to your eating habits, and are daunting for any person to stay committed to. Drastic diets can actually be hard on the body and increase the risks of medical complications and cause extreme fatigue. Whereas, Health Canada suggests that eating a well-balanced diet consisting of plenty of fruits, vegetables, protein, whole grains and making water your drink of choice, is in fact more healthy than partaking in a drastic fad diet.

How does CBD oil help my diet?

There are current studies that link how CBD effects the body are largely due to how it interacts with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system, and the CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors, called cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2), determine the behavioural effects of cannabis when consumed, as well as the effects of your body’s own cannabis chemicals, 2-AG and anandamide. Research suggest that ingesting CBD may reduce appetite and boost metabolism, which could potentially promote weight loss and gut health. CBD affects weight by interacting with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the lymphoid tissue and the brain – which play important roles in metabolism and food intake. The positive effects of ingesting CBD as an appetite suppressant, or weight loss method are currently being studied and verified by medical professionals.

How can I introduce CBD into my diet?

The two most popular ways to take CBD oil is through a tincture that you drop directly in your mouth, or through a capsule. Health and fitness professionals are starting to see the benefits of implementing CBD oil into a well-balanced diet, and are offering more creative ways to infuse CBD into food and beverages. For those who dislike the taste of CBD oil, or are not able to swallow pill capsules, adding a few drops of CBD oil into a tall glass of lemon water or blending up a nutrient packed green smoothie in the morning is a great way to start your day and encourage healthy digestion patterns, release unhealthy toxins and help purify your body.

Working out and how it is directly correlated to positively impacting our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing has been proven in numerous studies. That runners high, or confidence you feel after leaving the gym is unmatched to any type of drug or supplement you can ingest. However, working out can be painful. Exercise induced muscle damage (EIMD) can result in a condition commonly known as delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS). When you work out, you feel pain and soreness because you are causing microscopic damage and micro-tears to your muscle fibres, resulting in muscle soreness or stiffness. Instead of relying on over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs, like ibuprofen, many are turning to CBD to help them recover, and studies are starting to support these claims. Recovery is as important as working out itself. Implementing a rest and recovery routine such as heat, ice and compression, stretching is important to help reduce muscle pain and inflammation.

When should I take CBD oil if I am physically active?

CBD Oil has also been regarded as a treatment for inflammation, and the popularity of this recovery method is gaining traction by professional athletes and fitness professionals across the globe. Athletes use it to recover faster, and safer, unlike the over-the-counter opiates and pain relievers, they don’t cause addictive and other adverse effects. It even helped with more expedient and sustainable muscle recovery. After playing a game or working out, ingesting CBD, or infusing it into a topical cream and applying it to the affected areas that are sore, is a great way to recover and get you back in prime form for your next session and help you stick to those 2021 fitness goals.

Yoga Oil

Strengthening and lengthening the body is an often-overlooked activity. However, the benefits of spending just a few short sessions a week on stretches and strengthening exercises such as yoga or pilates are immense. Many endurance athletes are turning to workouts like yoga, pilates and other forms of core conditioning because they see significant performance gains due to increased flexibility, improved core strength and injury prevention.

Yoga is great for your body, as well as your mind, and soul. Moving our bodies daily is so vital for our mental health. By getting ourselves moving a little more each day, we are helping our bodies and minds function at their best. The main reason that yoga works is the combination of physical activity and mental calmness. When we become less anxious, less stressed, and a little more relaxed, we are able to focus our attention on something else besides our stress and anxiety. This is when we find our focus returning to us quickly. Yoga offers us a safe place to use our minds to relax, and a great low impact workout. CBD and movement is not a new concept, it is an age-old practice that was first spoken through word of mouth through ascetics and yogis through their sacred texts like the Yoga Sutra. Increased focus, improved body-mind connection, reduced inflammation, and decreased stress are a few of the various ways that CBD could benefit yogis of all levels.

Sleep is a vital, often neglected, component of every person's overall health and well-being. It is important to not only rest, but get an actual good night’s sleep because it enables the body to repair and for your mind to consolidate memories, process emotions and detoxify your brain. Sleep is as important to our physical wellness as working out, eating, drinking and breathing. On average, optimal sleep ranges differ by age, but the average adult should aim to get 8 hours of sleep a night.

According to Statistics Canada, a good night’s sleep does not occur as easy for some as it does for others. In fact, in one study, 1/3 of the population in Canada gets less than 7 hours of sleep a night. To make matters worse, sleeping pills and medications commonly used to induce sleep are often accompanied by harsh side effects. A natural alternative to these medications is CBD oil. It is currently trending as a sleep aid as many are discovering that it promotes drowsiness by removing obstacles to sleep, due to the fact that CBD is an anxiolytic, which means that it reduces anxiety and has calming properties in addition to having muscle relaxing properties.

As you wind down for the evening, taking CBD to help reduce anxiety and inflammation could also induce drowsiness. Try leaving a bottle by your bedside table and take a few drops before bed while you read a book and turn your screens off.

Thank yourself for how far you’ve come, 2020 hasn’t been easy on many of us. For many, it was one of the toughest, most grueling years of their entire lives. As we begin a new lap around the sun, we are planning and hoping for a better and brighter year ahead in 2021. When mapping out your wellness journey for 2021, it is important to frame this as a series of cognitive decisions and habits that you are partaking in to better your inner self, versus setting a list of finite resolutions. That is where setting resolutions can fail us. A resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something, whereas setting attainable goals are an object of a person's ambition or effort that feed into an aim or desired result that we work towards on a daily basis.

As we all embark on our 2021 wellness journeys, remember that there is no failure except in no longer trying. Find solace in the fact that you will have days where you fail these goals, but there is always another day tomorrow. At Blissco, we hope that you take the appropriate steps to set your wellness journey for 2021 down the right course, and that you will consider how CBD Oil can help you achieve these goals by implementing it into your daily routine to live a healthier and more fulfilling life.
